The Vice Chancellor, Federal University Otuoke, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko has formally constituted the Congregation, the third organ of the University which brings together teaching and non-teaching staff to deliberate on matters concerning the Institution.
Prof. Aluko while constituting the body Wednesday, 18th June 2014 said the University will continue to pay high premium on the welfare of staff and students.
The University Boss who commended the Registrar, Mr. David Suowari for his untiring effort to ensure that this arm of the University was well constituted urging staff to keep faith with the management as teething challenges will be gradually addressed.
The VC however appealed to the staff to take advantage of some government interventions to ameliorate their plights like National Health Insurance Scheme, National Housing Scheme, and Pension Administration Scheme etc.
He further stated that the Universitywill engage in training programmes in its bid to increase Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)
He concluded that the Institution is also interested in adding value to its host community.
“The time where the University is an island of its own is over, the University must relate favourably with its host communities” the VC pointed out.
Giving a brief on the body earlier, the Registrar, Mr. David Suowari said the University is governed by three organs which include the Governing Council, Senate and Congregation.
According to the Registrar, the congregation is a forum for teaching and non-teaching staff whose membership is open to only persons who hold offices by virtue of a University degree.
The Chief Medical Officer of the University, Dr. Uchenna Nwachukwu at the occasion spoke on NHIS, pre-natal, anti-natal and post-natal issues as it affects staff.
Among other matters that dominated discuss at the Inaugural congregation meeting include Security alertness, staff welfare, accreditation of programmes, staff confirmation and promotion,and students accommodation.
