Staff in the Administrative arm of the University have been advised to explore windows of opportunity available in the training fora of the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA), in order to attain higher heights in their career.
Vice-Chancellor Federal University Otuoke, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko gave the advice while officially declaring open the Inaugural meeting of ANUPA – Otuoke Chapter.
He acknowledged the contributions of founding members of ANUPA including the Registrar, Mr. David Suowari whose vision and wealth of experience has brought it to limelight, while promising Management’s support in human resources development.
“The University is handicapped when it comes to training but we will continue to judiciously use available funds to train staff.” he said.
Impressed by the number of registered members, he advised staff especially in the category of Administrative Assistant (AA) and Administrative Officer (AO) to aspire to advance their professional administrative knowledge so as to reach the zenith of their career.
“AA’s and AO’s position which you are in right now is not a career, find out what others are doing to get to the position of Senior Assistant Registrar (SAR) and even Registrar, so that you can get there too, he stated.
Also speaking, Registrar FUO, Mr. David Souwari expressed satisfaction at the first Inaugural meeting of ANUPA – Otuoke Chapter, describing it as signal to the readiness to promote the individual and corporate welfare of members and also enhance the development of the administration and management in FUO.
Delivering her inaugural speech, Chairperson ANUPA –Otuoke Chapter, Mrs. Andabi Amangi-Edomo commended the support of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Mobolaji Aluko and Registrar, Mr. David Suowari revealing that it has resulted in the growth of the body especially in the area of staff training within and outside the University.
“VC Sir, in 2013 you approved the sponsorship of seven Senior Officers in the Administrative cadre to the Annual Conference of ANUPA held at the University of Ibadan, those who attended are seated here today and can testify to the wealth of knowledge they acquired,” she said.
Mrs. Andabi revealed that a training module has been drawn-up for the next six months for staff.
“There is an urgent need for re-orientation of Administrative staff so that they can create for themselves a niche that will allow for growth and development in their various endeavour.
Also, goodwill messages were given by the Acting Librarian FUO, Mr. Hudron Kari and Chairman ANUPA – Niger Delta University Chapter, Mr. Benjamin Joffa.
Mr. Kari emphasized on the importance of team work which breeds success while Mr. Joffa endorsed the leadership of ANUPA Otuoke Chapter, remarking that the Association is in good hands.
ANUPA – Otuoke Chapter is run by six-member Caretaker Committee with current membership strength of 114 and it is strictly for staff of the Administrative Cadre.
The Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators (ANUPA) is an arm of the Association of Registrars of Nigerian Universities (ARNU) saddled with the responsibility of training University Administrators.
