“On behalf of the Vice Chancellor, staff and students of this University, I formally accept these drugs from you and hope that they meet our needs”
These were the words of the Registrar FUO, Mr. David Suowari during the donation of drugs to FUO Medical Centre by MDG Bayelsa recently in Otuoke.
Mr. Suowari who expressed the felicitation and gratitude of the University to the State Government and Parastatals involved was optimistic that the drugs will be useful.
“We want you to convey our gratitude to the Governor and the agencies for these drugs, am sure they will definitely be useful to us” he said.
Representative of the Senior Special Adviser on MDG to the Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Embelakpo Apere and leader of the delegation Dr. Godswill Ibonoma Ikuli while presenting the drugs said the donation of essential drugs to the University is part of the MDG’s function in line with Goals 4, 5 and 6.
He further stated that they also have a mandate to partner with other Institutions to ensure that they achieve their objectives.
Also speaking at the event, Press Officer and Head Monitoring and Evaluation MDG Bayelsa, Mr. Amafini Zipador disclosed that FUO is the first tertiary institution in the State to receive medical drugs donation.
He further solicited for partnership with the Medical Centre so that MDG Bayelsa can achieve its goal of reaching out to many people within its environs.
“We hope that from now on you will partner with us so that MDG Bayelsa State will achieve its goal” he said.
On his part the Senior Medical Director in charge of the Medical Centre Dr. Uchenna Nwachukwu was elated by the gesture from the MDG and expressed his gratitude to Hon. Embelakpo Apere for honouring his request for drugs, which include essential and consumable drugs, analgesics, infusions, anti-biotics, supplements, anti-malaria and anti- helminthics drugs.
“I am very glad to receive these essential drugs from MDG Bayelsa State, I am grateful to the SSA on MDG to the State Governor, who made this available for us, I am happy that today we are receiving these drugs I requested for” he said.
Dr. Uchenna added that the donation marks the beginning of a good relationship with MDG Bayelsa State while disclosing that there are many things the MDG can also do for the Institution.
Also speaking at the event, Dean Faculty of Science, Prof. Bio Nyananyo emphasized that the students will immensely benefit from the drugs.
In his words “With these drugs our students will be very healthy all the time, they will not miss classes and they will have good grades in their exams”.
Bursar, FUO, Ms. Atonbara Ombu also thanked the donors and requested that the gesture continues as it will go a long way in reducing the cost expended in medicare by Management.
The MDG agency is also charged with eradicating, poverty,improving education, encouraging gender equality, building and equipping hospitals and partnership with stakeholders to actualize its objectives and goals.
