A Cross Section of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko and the Ebola Sensitization Campaign Team
Federal University Otuoke through its Medical Centre has taken the Ebola sensitization campaign to all corners of its campus and the host community, Otuoke.
The campaign is part of emergency measures by the University Health Advisory Committee chaired by the Medical Director Dr. Uchenna Nwachukwu to engage in a campus – wide campaign to enlighten staff and students on the deadly Ebola virus which is seriously affecting some countries in West Africa including Nigeria.
Senior Medical Officer FUO, Dr. Uchenna Nwachukwu led the Ebola Sensitization Campaign Team made up of 21 volunteers who are staff from various administrative units of the Institution.
Carrying a banner, wearing T-shirts and caps with the message “Ebola is real” boldly inscribed, accompanied with protective kits like hand gloves and face masks, the team took off their campaign from the VC’s office to all parts of the campus and into Otuoke community.
Using a public address system, the campaign team sounded it clearly that the Ebola virus disease should be taken seriously and therefore people must demonstrate a heightened sense of personal hygiene and general sanitation.
“Ebola is real, you must be aware, attentive and alert” they chanted as they walk.
The message further urged people not to panic but exercise all discretion and universal precautions, disregarding rumours and superstitions about the disease.
Handbills and memos containing facts on Ebola, its symptoms and preventive measures were distributed and posters mounted at strategic locations within the campus and Otuoke community.
Dr. Uchenna Nwachukwu hinted FUO Media Team that there will be repeated campaigns intended to go farther than Otuoke and that the distribution of Hand Sanitizers to offices has already begun.
