The FUO contigent to the just concluded 11th Nigerian Universities Staff Sports Association (NUSSA) games, held at University of Benin from 3rd – 9th August, 2014 have been given a pat on the back for their enthusiasm to attend the competition.
The National Chairman, Nigerian Universities Staff Sport Association (NUSSA) Prof. Michael Mgbor gave the commendation while receiving the FUO Sports Team drafted to the competition led by Head, Sports and Recreational Unit, Mrs. Helen Wokoro.
“I really want to commend management of Federal University Otuoke, I want to sincerely thank the Vice Chancellor, Staff and Students for encouraging such a young university to take part in this competition”.
The National Chairman stated that the essence of the contest is not for laurels only, but to complement physical activities with the working life of university staff in order to achieve the desired productivity.
Prof. Mgbor bemoaned the funding challenges faced by Nigerian Universities blaming it on the reason why most institutions could not participate.
The NUSSA Chairman concluded by advising management of FUO to build on this good start by sponsoring staff and students to University Sporting events.
The Head Sports and Recreation Unit, FUO Mrs. Helen Wokoro while addressing her team after the trip thanked Management for their support and Staff for their determination inspite of challenges.
She expressed optimism that FUO contingent will not only participate in the next edition but win laurels.
FOU contingent have since returned from NUSSA and each team player received a certificate of participation from the organizers with much excitement at the new experience.
