A cross section of FUO Management, NIM National and FUO Chapter EXCO's
To further sharpen the professional skills, growth and development of management practice within Federal University Otuoke, the Institution is building close links with the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) Chartered.
The University recently played host to a 15-man delegation from NIM led by its National President Dr. Nelson Uwaga on a courtesy visit to the Institution.
The Registrar FUO, Mr. David Souwari in company of some top management staff received the high powered delegation on behalf of the Vice Chancellor Prof. Mobolaji Aluko.
At a round table session between the both parties, the Registrar, Mr. David Suowari emphasized on the importance of working with NIM which he said is expected to produce sterling managerial prowess within any corporate entity.
The Registrar stated thatNIM, FUO Chapter has been firmly established and structured to develop professional management skills among members while enlisting experienced hands at its helm of affairs.
Mr. David Suowari spoke on the growth of Federal University Otuoke since inception in 2011, facilities, admissions, employment, faculties and programmes on ground and proposed ones.
National president NIM, Dr. Nelson Uwaga in an address commended the VC and FUO management for efficiently piloting the affairs of the University.
“You have not only wielded the staff together but have also succeeded in gaining the confidence of the teeming students’ population here. This is not forgetting the infrastructural development you have brought to bear on the University, as I can see a lot of edifices dotting the nooks and crannies of the school premises. You have shown that you are a good manager of human and material resources” Dr. Uwaga said.
He appraised his Institute’s contributions to national development to include: capacity building, consultancy, re-engineering and human capital development with inroads in accreditation partnership with NUC, signing of MOU with Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji on professional management training, public policy advocacy on subsidy removal, national security, power generation and distribution among others.
A request was made by NIM National President to mount the students scheme of the Institute in FUO to afford students from 300 level in all disciplines the opportunity of being management professionals at an early stage.
He further solicited for the nomination of members of staff to attend their regular human capacity development and learning programmes, urging the University to be enlisted as a corporate member of NIM.
Other speakers at the round table were Dean of Science, Prof. Bio Nyananyo who remarked on the academic prowess of the school in the area of scholarship and research, member NIM Governing Council on Corporate Affairs and Public Relations Mr. John Kalama touched on sponsorship while NIM Chairman FUO Mr. Aliu Sule spoke on programmes of the local branch.
Souvenirs were presented from either side as the 15 man delegation from NIM proceeded to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State Capital for a 3 day management summit (30th July – 1st August 2014) for the South-South Zone, tagged Bayelsa 2014 with theme – Restoration: Sign post for rapid Development – the Bayelsa State example.
