Research and other activities in FUO will soon get a boost as Management has concluded plans to increase the internet bandwidth from 4 Megabytes per second (mbps) to 20mbps.
This was revealed by the Manager, Network Operations Center (NOC), Mr. Ogunsakin Tunji, during an interview with FUO Media in his office.
Mr. Ogunsakin said the development was as a result of the challenges the institution is facing because of inadequate bandwidth to access the internet by students and staff for on-line activities like Research, e-Learning, Registration and others.
He stated that Management was able to achieve this feat because of its desire to improve academic and administrative excellence in the University.
According to him, "before now we had only 4mbps, that is, 2mbps each from Globalcom Limited and Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) Limited, but now we have 8mbps from Globacom Limited and 10mbps from MTN Nigeria Communications Limited, and this 20mbps bandwidth will improve academic and administrative activities in the Institution”.
Mr. Tunji also disclosed that FUO is developing some computer applications and modules for e-Learning and administration that will further enhance improved Student-Lecturer-Staff Interaction via the Internet with the aid of Tablets, Laptops or Mobile Applications.
He urged the University community to use the internet facility for the purpose for which it was provided to justify the efforts of management.
He concluded by bemoaning the insufficient electric power supply to the University, while commending the efforts of Management at curtailing the effect, he expressed optimism that there will eventually be increase in the supply, so that down-time will be reduced and the improved bandwidth optimized.
