A Forum of Ogbia Doctoral (Ph.D) students in Nigerian Universities has demanded for the establishment of Faculties of Education, Law and Medical sciences in Federal University Otuoke.
The group came up with this demand when it paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Otuoke, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko in his office Thursday, 13th November, 2014.
Speaking through its Chairman, Dr. Apuega Arikawei, the forum noted that the request was necessitated by the need to train undergraduates in specialized disciplines to become employable graduates that will be useful to the society.
While acknowledging the enormous task of running a University, the group noted that the establishment of the three Faculties will help build strong human capacity development in Ogbia and its environ
Appealing to the Vice Chancellor to grant their request, the forum submitted that among the reasons of establishing the University was to promote access, equity and quality education, also urging that some of their members who have requisite qualification to Lecture in the Institution should be considered.
Responding, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Otuoke, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko expressed the willingness to establish law and medicine faculties but at post graduate level.
According to him, the University doesn’t want to establish many faculties too quickly without enough manpower training to avoid repeating mistakes other Universities who lost accreditation made.
Prof. Aluko however, advocated for a utilitarian education in the country noting that the University is desirous of producing quality graduates that will compete favourably with their counterparts across the globe.
It will be recalled that recently, the Nigerian Institute of Architects also visited the VC, appealing for the establishment of Faculty of Architecture at FUO.
