The Vice Chancellor Federal University Otuoke, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko has advised contestants vying for membership into the newly inaugurated Governing Council of the University not to allow their aspirations cause division within the institution.
Prof. Aluko said this at the pre-council election debate organized for congregation members at the Reference Library on 15th May, 2015.
The Vice Chancellor outlined some of the responsibilities of council to include; policy formulation, University growth, fund raising, implementation of adequate welfare for staff and students among others. He urged them to brace-up to these responsibilities and be ready to offer selfless service.
The VC hinted that although the chairman of the governing council has not been installed, the new governing council will hold its first meeting as soon as the internal council is fully constituted.
Prof. Aluko who said he has worked closely with all the aspirants noted that he has no special candidate but teased that anyone who emerges victorious will be his candidate.
The Registrar, Mr. David Suowari in his remarks, informed the congregation that the University is governed by the Governing Council, Senate and Congregation.
Describing the congregation as the people’s parliament of the University he stated that council is not a trade Union as perceived in some quarters.
Mr. Suowari advised aspirants not to make unnecessary promises in their campaigns assuring that the election will be very transparent as voters register have been displayed in some strategic points.
Teaching staff vying to represent congregation in council include; Dr. Chris Onyema, Dr. Evans Eze, Dr. Love Arugu and Mr. Bruno Ikuli. While the non-teaching staff have: Dr. Uchenna Nwachukwu, Mrs. Tariere Dabipi and Mrs. Andabi Amangi-Edomo
