The Vice Chancellor Federal University Otuoke, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko has commended the growing strength of the University’s Staff Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Limited pledging more support from management.
Speaking at the Second Annual General Meeting of the Society on Wednesday, June 24 2015, Prof. Aluko reiterated his determination to invest more in the Cooperative to boost its financial base.
The VC who expressed confidence in the leadership of the University’s Cooperative announced plans by the University to allow the Society manage Onopa Housing Estate being currently managed by the University.
Welcoming members and guests to the occasion, the President FUO Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Limited, Mr. Kenneth Sonrandein said the essence of the Society is to enhance productivity among members.
According to him, within one and half years of the Cooperative’s existence, it has become a conspicuous component of the University community and has gained positive impact among members of the University community.
Mr. Sonrandein who said the Society has made significant progress by touching the lives of members in various areas of human endeavour noted that the University’s Cooperative is improving commitment, punctuality and productivity in the institution. He also stated that the forum has posted a net-surplus of over N8 Million.
In his remark, the Director, Bureau for Cooperative Development, Bayelsa State, Mr. Jim-Ogbolo, congratulated FUO Staff Cooperative members for the strides made within the short period of the Cooperative’s existence stating that the aim is to eradicate poverty from the society.
Mr. Ogbolo commended the Vice Chancellor for creating an enabling environment for the Society to thrive, advising members of staff who have not joined to take advantage especially having seen the successes recorded within the short period of the Society’s existence.
At the election of new Management Committee of the Society, the President, Mr. Kenneth Sonrandein and the Secretary, Mr. Odio Abiobele were returned unopposed, while the treasurer, Mr. Godfrey Opuene was re-elected and Mrs. Adekilekun Olajumoke defeated former Vice President, Mrs. Atowoti Esther to emerge new Vice President.
The Second Annual General Meeting of the Federal University Otuoke Staff Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society Limited was adjudged to be successful by staff who also commended the EXCO for prudence, transparency and accountability.
