Third year Students of Accounting and Finance Programme, Department of Social Sciences, Federal University Otuoke have embarked on a 4 – day excursion in some Financial Institutions in Lagos.
Speaking to FUO Media about the trip and experiences, the leader of the group and a lecturer in the programme, Dr. Etumudon Ndidi Asien said the students were taken on the trip to acquaint them with the wheelings and dealings in financial and market institutions in Nigeria.
Dr. Asien who is teaching the students a course in Financial Institutions and Market noted that the excursion was imperative to expose them on the practical aspect of the course.
According to the lecturer, the students visited the Nigerian Stock Exchange to see how trading on the floor takes place, and at the Security and Exchange Commission they learnt the regulatory measures it has put in place for the organization of the capital market.
Another institution visited according to Dr. Asien was the National Insurance Commission where the students were taught regulatory issues of the Nigerian insurance industry.
The lecturer however thanked the FUO Vice chancellor Prof. Mobolaji Aluko for the overwhelming support he gave to the students in order for the excursion to be actualized, noting that the experience garnered will help the students in their academic pursuits.
The students of Accounting and Finance embarked on the excursion to gain practical knowledge of financial institutions in Nigeria, the financial market and its regulatory bodies.
Famous Agu, the course representative of the programme and Akolam Stella Tochukwu who spoke on behalf of the students thanked the VC for the opportunity afforded them to embark on the excursion assuring that the experience and knowledge gained is an eye opener to the practical aspect of the course titled: - Financial Institutions and Market.
