Federal University Otuoke has been adjudged an Information Communication Technology driven Institution with the prospect of becoming a World Class Varsity in the nearest future.
This assertion was made by the newly appointed Bursar of the University, Mr. Uche Toby Agburuga during an interview with FUO Media in his office on assumption of duty.
The Bursar said he is very impressed with the efforts already made by management in the area of ICT and Revenue generation citing the availability of internet access to staff, use of Modern Computer Software like Enterprise Resources planning (ERP) and establishment of FUO Company as references.
He said the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mobolaji Aluko is a visionary leader with a strong desire to make FUO a World Class Institution and is happy to be part of that team with hope of translating that dream into reality.
“The Vice Chancellor is eager to make FUO a University that will raise the bar for other Universities in Nigeria and I am interested in joining the team” he said.
Mr. Agburuga disclosed that he intends to strengthen the bursary Department of FUO by stream lining the processes on ground and engaging staff in capacity building in different areas of accounting, while hoping that all gaps in the process will be closed.
“I found out that there are gaps that need to be filled, I intend to strengthen the internal control process by training staff and ensuring that the desired motivation is put in place to ensure that results are achieved” he said.
He concludedby promising to ensure that alternate funding projects will be created and sustained, adding that FUO will leverage on its core values as a research Institution to improve socio-economic activities in the Niger Delta Region and generate revenue.
The Bursar was appointed after interviews conducted by the Federal Ministry of Education and National Universities Commission for some principal officers of the nine (9) new Federal Universities in Abuja.
Mr. Agburuga is from Omoku in Rivers State, chartered since 1995, he became a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) in 2005.
He is an Associate of chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, also a Certified Information System (CISA) and member Information System Audit and Control Association (ISACA) USA.
Before his appointment he was a former Bursar of Federal College of Education (Technical) Omoku, Rivers State where he completed his statutory two tenures from 1999 to 2009.
The Bursar is widely travelled, married with children, his hobbies include, Reading, Research, Community Service and working out.
