The Vice Chancellor Federal University Otuoke Prof. Seth Accra Jaja says the adoption of large scale farming policy by the Federal Government will guaranty food security and create employment.
Prof. Jaja made this position known when members of the Third Phase Federal Government Amnesty Programme paid him a visit in his office at Otuoke, Ogbia Local Government Council Area, Bayelsa State.
The Vice Chancellor who commended the group for their peaceful disposition noted that large scale farming will meaningfully engage them.
According to him, over dependence in oil has made so many people in the country lazy positing that Agriculture is a good alternative to save Nigeria from its current economic quagmire.
He however advised the ex-agitators in the Niger Delta to always think on how they will contribute towards national development and shun selfish tendencies.
Earlier in his speech, the leader of the delegation, Ebi john who said they are now peace ambassadors called for a partnership with the University on what he called “agricultural initiative” set up by the group.
The leader said the group came up with the agricultural initiative to meaningfully engage youths of the Niger Delta and also contribute towards the development of the region.
He noted that the initiative is serving as a paradigm shift from what agriculture used to be, pointing out that the new idea which they want to inject into agriculture informed their decision of partnering higher institutions in the Niger Delta to develop it.
