History of the Department

Business Administration is one of the departments created in the Faculty of Management Sciences in February 2016 under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Professor Seth Accra Jaja. The department assumed the status of a degree programme with a total of 140 pioneer students and 7 Academic staff. Interestingly, the department has steadily progressed in student enrolment profile, staffing, facility acquisition and increasing its potentials in creating enabling environment for excellent academic pursuits. Dr. Timothy Obalade-Falade Adedapo was appointed the Acting Head of the department. Thereafter Dr. Donald O. Ewanlen was appointed as the second Head of department, and now Dr. Laguo Livingstone Gilbert as the current Head of Department. Currently, the department has graduated its first set of students (the pioneers) who are now in NYSC programme. More so, there are 100 students in 400 level, 93 in 300 level, 124 in 200 level and 108 in 100 level indicating that the department is on a steady part of development.
We are optimistic that our students will distinguish themselves and join hands to shape the corporate world. In terms of manpower, the department has now risen to eighteen (18) teaching staff and five (5) non-teaching staff with a strong view to becoming a foremost department capable of producing the most effective and efficient business and management student the world so needed.
The department offers traditional disciples of Business Administration namely Analysis for Business Decision, Business Policy and Strategy, Research Methodology, Corporate Planning, Management Consulting, Business and Society, Principles of Management, Management Theory, Management Information Systems, Business Statistics, Business Communications etc. which are in line with NUC standards (BMAS), thus to equip students with requisite knowledge and business techniques to become business professional. In order to produce students with the skills of business and management practice capable of facing the challenges of the business environment and equally become employer of labour, the department offers courses in Entrepreneurial Programme, as well as partnering with the university wide Entrepreneurial Centre to give students the opportunity to understand theories and practice in entrepreneurial world. Such courses expose our students to skills such as; determining capital requirements, raising capital, financial planning and management, starting a new business, feasibility studies etc.
