Brief History of the Department
The Department of Human Physiology, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences (FBMS), Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Nigeria, was initiatedin 2023 and coordinated by Dr. Eni-yimini S. Agoro (Pioneer Coordinator of the Department of Human Physiology). Afterwards, Dr. Ekakitie Ofovwe Obruche was appointed on the 2nd of November, 2023 as Coordinator. As a dynamic Department, its major objective is to train students on the basic medical science of the function of the human body and its interaction with the changing internal and external environment, as well as the theories, skills and techniques of modern biomedical research which are at the forefront of advances in medical research – including biotechnology, pharmaceutical industry, food science, health and safety sciences, etc. Graduates of the Bachelor of Science degree programme in Human Physiology shall be equipped for careers in hospitals, biomedical laboratories, Safety and Environmental centers, Nutrition Industry, Sports Medicine, and Health Research Institutions. They can also take up academic careers as lecturers in tertiary institutions, representatives for medical and pharmaceutical firms
