The establishment of the School of Basic Studies, Federal University Otuoke was approved by the Senate of the University in October, 2021. Two distinct programmes are presently run namely: Pre-Degree and JUPEB (A-Level) programmes These programmes serve as a stepping stone for students to transition from secondary education to the tertiary level, ensuring they have the necessary academic foundation and skills.
Pre-Degree Programme
These are preparatory courses aimed at helping students meet the requirements for admission into undergraduate programmes in Science and Engineering. They usually cover subjects relevant to the desired field of study and are tailored to bridge any gaps in knowledge. It is designed for candidates with the minimum Ordinary Level (O’ Level) requirements of five credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and three other relevant Science subjects in WAEC, NECO or NABTEB. Additionally, this programme is designed to prepare candidates intensively for the UTME Exam. Candidates are thus required to enroll and subsequently sit for the UTME exam
Foundation Programme(JUPEB)
It is designed to prepare candidates with the required Five (5) O’Level Credits in WAEC, NECO or NABTEB for the Advanced level subject based Exam administered by the Joint Universities Preliminary
Examinations Board (JUPEB). Direct Entry Admissions by JAMB are subsequently offered to successful candidates into 200 Level of the desired field of study.
