BRIEF PROFILE
Dr. Olufunso O. Abosede is a Reader in Inorganic Chemistry and the current acting Head of Department of Chemistry at Federal University Otuoke. He holds BSc., MSc. and PhD Chemistry from University of Ilorin, Nigeria. He was an awardee of TWAS-DBT postgraduate fellowship in 2012 and also an awardee of the individual research grant of International Foundation for Science (IFS) in 2015. He was also a recipient of the UNESCO/IUPAC/PhosAgro partnership in Green Chemistry research grant in 2018. He has worked in multicultural societies and among people with diverse backgrounds such as during a one-year TWAS-DBT postgraduate fellowship at Savitribai Phule Pune University, India and at Nelson Mandela University, South Africa. He is a member of a number of international scientific organizations and also a reviewer to some internationally peer-reviewed high-impact journals of Chemistry. He is the Faculty Advisor of the student chapter of the American Chemical Society at Federal University Otuoke. His strong desire is to be a mentor and inspiration to a new crop of chaps who will be leaders of tomorrow in their chosen professions.
Research Activity
Dr. Abosede specializes in Inorganic and Materials Chemistry with research focus in the area of synthesis and characterization of new compounds with therapeutic applications. His present research is on syntheses, characterization and applications of transition metal complexes as well as co-crystals of active pharmaceutical ingredients. The applications of these complexes have focused on antibacterial, antimalarial, cytotoxic and anticancer studies as well as catalysis such as superoxide dismutase (SOD) mimic in the catalytic disproportionation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The syntheses, structural characterization as well as applications of nanomaterials are also part of his research interests.
