Federal University Otuoke conducted the January edition of the Hallowed Hour also known as “Okoko Eghalam Egola” on Wednesday 31st January, 2024. The event took place at the University Senate Chamber, West Campus Extension with the Theme: Divine Consolidation, taken from the Book of Psalms chapter 19, verse seventeen.

After the opening prayer by the University CSO Barr. Biobaragha Makalabh, there was a praise and worship session and then the Hymn, “Rock of Ages, Cleft for me”.

The first scripture reading was taken by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Teddy Charles Adias from the book of Psalm 138:1-8, while Prof Akenbor read the second bible reading from 2nd Chronicles 7: 11-16. A student representative read the third bible reading taken from 1st Peter 2: 6 -10.

In her brief exhortation, the University Librarian Professor Felicia Edu-Uwem Etim thanked God for the five (5) years of her service in the University appropriating Psalm 138, the bible portion for the day. She defined   ‘Consolidation’  found in Google as being a process in making something strong. But she pointed out that what makes consolidation divine, is the anointing of the Holy Spirit. The auction of the Holy Spirit is what makes us achieve all we need to do as Christians. Christ being the Chief cornerstone chooses us as a Royal Priesthood, a Holy Nation to show forth and carry His will on earth.

She went on further to explain the reason for the consolidation. According to her, upon resumption of duties in 2019, there were only five (5) Faculties and Twenty Eight (28) Departments, but in 2024, the Faculties are now Nine (9) faculties and Fifty (50) undergraduate programmes amongst the many other programmes of the post graduate school. She noted that this was a testimony. She went on to reel out the achievements of the school especially in the Library and announced that she is proud to be a part of the present Principal Officers of the University. Beaming with excitement on her accomplishments during her tenure, Prof. Etim burst into a worship song before concluding her message with a text from Psalm 90 verse 17 and prayed God to establish the work of our hands in FUO.

Professor Etim pleaded with the Vice Chancellor for a site on campus to establish a Chapel on or before his tenure elapses.

High point of her exhortation was the announcement of her donation of a moveable pulpit and musical instruments to the University imploring the VC to continue with the Hallowed Hour.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Teddy Charles Adias who was in attendance promised to continue in the path set by the Librarian as long as the University exists. He went down memory lane from the time she appeared for her interview as Librarian till she resumed work in FUO commending her on her exploits in the University especially   innovations in the University Library and FUO community at large. He announced a special send forth session with senate for her, and beseeched her to see the University as her home as she will always be welcomed with open arms.

Professor Adias promised that a spot would soon be earmarked for the building of the chaplaincy so that a permanent pulpit could be erected there as the Librarian had wished. He thereafter announced Professor Akenbor as the next leader of the Hallowed Hour Programme for the University.

There were prayers to dedicate the new instruments donated by Professor Felicia Etim, for the new Leader, Professor Akenbor, the Vice Chancellor and the University Community.
