The groundbreaking ceremony for the Women Association of Federal University Otuoke (WAFUO) Village, simply referred to as WAFUO Village, took place at the West Campus on December 17, 2024, as part of the association’s end-of-year celebrations themed “Celebrating the Past, Building the Future.”

WAFUO Village is an ambitious initiative featuring a crèche, primary and secondary schools, a state-of-the-art secretariat, and a shopping mall, aligning seamlessly with the end-of-year celebration’s theme of building a robust future.

At the ceremony, Dr. (Mrs.) Lolo Teddy Adias, President of WAFUO and wife of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Teddy Charles Adias, warmly welcomed attendees. In her address, she remarked, “Today, we gather to celebrate our achievements in 2024. As a community, we’ve faced numerous challenges, but our resilience and unity—true to our motto—have brought us this far. Congratulations to us all!”

Dr. Adias described WAFUO Village as a visionary project aimed at creating a thriving community for women and fostering solidarity among them. “Once the structures are complete, we will be better equipped to tackle future challenges and seize new opportunities,” she affirmed.

She expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Teddy Charles Adias, and the Management team for their unwavering support. She also encouraged members to pray for WAFUO’s sponsors and embrace the celebration wholeheartedly: “Let’s celebrate our successes, dance, and enjoy ourselves to the fullest.”

Dr. Preteowei Topman Suwari, the Bursar of Federal University Otuoke (FUO), represented the Vice-Chancellor at the event and conveyed the Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to supporting the initiative. In his remarks, Dr. Suwari humorously noted that the project would require substantial funding—perhaps why the Vice-Chancellor had entrusted him, as Bursar, to represent him. He acknowledged his pivotal role in ensuring the necessary funds for the WAFUO Village project flow appropriately.

Dr. Suwari commended Dr. (Mrs.) Lolo Teddy Adias for her visionary leadership and the laudable initiative. He then laid the foundation stone for the project, dedicating it to the Almighty God, “without whom nothing is possible.”

The WAFUO end-of-year celebration continued at the Postgraduate School Auditorium, West Campus, FUO, with fanfare, including freestyle dances, games, and a motivational talk on the curative values of sea salt by Mrs. Nitebai Daniel.
