Brief Profile

Theophilus Yousuo IRUO is a dedicated and accomplished professional with a strong background in Animal Physiology and Bioclimatology. He holds an M.Sc. in Animal Physiology and Bioclimatology from the University of Ibadan, as well as a B. Agric in Animal Science from Niger Delta University. With a focus on reproductive physiology, assisted reproductive technology (ART), endocrinology, neurophysiology, and environmental physiology, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role. Currently serving as a Lecturer in the Department of Biology, Faculty of Science, at Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Nigeria, since June 2023, Iruo is actively engaged in teaching and research. At Federal University Otuoke, he imparts knowledge in courses such as Comparative Animal Physiology, Animal Taxonomy, Invertebrate’s Zoology, and Introductory Developmental Cell Biology, demonstrating his commitment to academic excellence and student development. In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Iruo is a respected member of several professional organizations, including the Nigerian Institute of Animal Science (NIAS), the Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN), and the Nigerian Society for Animal Production (NSAP). He actively participates in conferences and workshops, presenting his research findings and staying abreast of the latest developments in his field. Iruo is a published author, with notable contributions to the field of animal science, including the paper “Cytoprotective effects of garlic on spermatozoa quality and fertilizing ability of extended porcine semen,” published in the Nigerian Journal of Animal Production. His research interests and expertise extend beyond the academic realm, as evidenced by his participation in training programs on youth empowerment and agricultural sustainability, such as the Google Digital Training for Youth Empowerment and the Agriculture and Food Security Center training at Columbia University, USA. Recognized for his academic achievements and potential, Iruo has been the recipient of prestigious scholarships and awards, including the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) Joint Venture University Areas of Operation Scholarship Award in 2011 and the SPDC Joint Venture Areas of Operation Scholarship Award for Secondary Schools in 2004. With his passion for education, commitment to research excellence, and dedication to community engagement, Theophilus Yousuo IRUO is poised to make significant contributions to the advancement of animal science and higher education in Nigeria and beyond.
