’’CONGREGATION MEETING – A THEATRE’’ VC SETH ACCRA JAJA ALLUDES
The Vice Chancellor Federal University Otuoke, Prof. Seth Accra Jaja has described the meeting of Congregation as a forum for freedom of speech and expression.
The VC made the allusion at the 7th meeting of Congregation held at the University auditorium, Skills Acquisition centre- Wednesday July 18 2018.
Presiding over the Congregation meeting as Chairman, Prof. Seth Accra Jaja likened the meeting to a maternity room where activities are open, precise and considered important, leading to the birth of a new borne (ideas).
He further urged members to make contributions without fear of victimization, assuring that the platform is expected to entertain issues, diverse views and opinions with the hope of proffering workable solutions that will further enhance the growth of workers and the university.
Deliberations at the meeting included the approval of staff promotion, conversion, welfare, work output among others.
He revealed that complaints on grade level placements and payment of salary arrears have since been forwarded to the Governing Council.
Prof. Jaja announced that Federal University Otuoke is to start a Medical School in partnership with the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa Bayelsa State, adding that a seven man committee has been set up to prepare the framework and report to him within 7 days for necessary action.
Congregation Representative in council, Mrs Tariere Dabipi on behalf of the Governing Council briefed members on decisions taken at the last Council meeting in Abuja, including the approval of staff regularization, confirmation, promotion and conversion.
She also announced the appointment of Mr Yousuo Jonah as the new Registrar and Engr. Freddy Bonny as Director of Works/Physical planning.
Mrs Dabipi however noted that the appointment of Librarian and Chief Security Officer are yet to be confirmed.
Other ebullient speakers at the meeting were the union Leaders: SSANU Chairman- Comrade Joseph Kalizibe, ASUU Chairman-Dr Joseph Omoro, ASUU Secretary-Dr John Kalama and Representative of NAAT Chairman- Poweidei Debekome.
Members also had the opportunity to air their views at the 7th meeting of Congregation.
