BRIEF PROFILE

Professor ZaccheausAwortu Jeremiah is a Professor of Haematology and Blood Transfusion Science. He obtained the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) degree in 2006 and other postgraduate degrees from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology(now Rivers State University) all in the discipline of Haematology and BTS.  He obtained the academic Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists (FRCPath) London in 2013, Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science (FIBMS) London in 2014 and Fellow of the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science (FWAPCMLS) in 2020. He is the regional foundation chair of Haematology Faculty in the West African Postgraduate College of Medical Laboratory Science.

He joined the Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island as a Lecturer 1 in 2007 and rose to the rank of a Professor of Haematology and Blood Transfusion Science on the 1st October 2014 in the same University. He delivered his inaugural lecture titled THE ORACLE IN THE BLOOD on the 13th December 2017. His research interest encompasses the following areas in Haematology; general haematology, immunohaematology, infectious diseases and coagulation. His current research interest is on adhesion molecules. He has over one hundred and fifty (150) research publications in National and International peer review journals to his credit. He has served as an international mentor in the UNDP and RCPathLabSkill Africa programme in the East African Countries of Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Uganda. He has supervised and graduated over fifteen Ph.D students in Haematology and BTS across several Universities in Nigeria.

He is the founding President of the Haematology and Blood Transfusion Scientists Society of Nigeria (HBTSSN), Chairman Board of Trustees of Fellowship of Christian Medical Laboratory Professionals (FCMLP), Nigeria. He is a Fellow of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (FAMLSN). He is currently on sabbatical in haematology and blood transfusion science department, faculty of Medical Laboratory Science, Federal university, Otuoke, Bayelsa State,

He is happily married to Dr (Mrs) Theresa.A.Jeremiah, the Rivers State Chairman, Association of Female Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria(AFMLSN) and they are blessed with four children, Dr Bliss Nsan Jeremiah, FavourInyemesu Jeremiah,  Mirabel Metong Jeremiah and  David Inomida Jeremiah.
